The historic BMW Open tennis tournament in Munich has climbed the ATP rankings this year and is debuting as an ATP 500 event. And it’s making that debut in style: This year’s winner won’t just walk away with glory – they’ll also drive off in BMW’s most powerful electric car to date, the BMW iX M70.

BMW Group announced in a press release on April 11, 2025, that the BMW iX M70 will be the grand prize. With 660 horsepower and an impressive 0–100 km/h time of just 3.8 seconds, this electric SUV isn’t just fast – it also boasts long-range capability. The BMW iX M70 has an estimated range of up to 560 kilometers (WLTP) and a price tag in Denmark that quickly exceeds 1.1 million DKK.

The tournament, sponsored by Bitpanda and held in BMW’s hometown of Munich, is as prestigious as ever and full of big names. But this year, there’s a special emphasis on the future – both within and beyond the sport.

During the event, BMW is also launching the FUTURE ACES initiative. Combining elite sports with social responsibility, the project aims to provide underprivileged youth with access to tennis and opportunities to develop both their athletic talents and life prospects. In collaboration with partners from the sports world – including event organizer MMP Event and the German Tennis Federation – BMW hopes to “promote equality through sport.”

“We want to give back to the community while celebrating innovation and peak performance,” said Christian Ach, Director of BMW Germany, in the press release.

BMW has been a dedicated sponsor of the tournament since 1987, and the event often serves as a platform for unveiling the company’s latest vehicles – especially its electrified models. In previous years, both the BMW i8 and M-series vehicles have graced the winner’s podium, but this year raises the bar further in both performance and sustainability.

Whether it will be stars like Alexander Zverev or a new rising talent who drives home in a BMW iX M70 worth €150,000, the coming days of competition will reveal.
