BMW Powers Forward as Electric Vehicle Sales Jump 30%
While the Chinese market disappoints, BMW holds strong in Europe and the USA – and the green transition accelerates.
BMW Charging Ahead: EV Sales Surge Over 30% in Q1 2025
BMW Group has kicked off 2025 with strong momentum, reporting solid sales figures and double-digit growth in its electric vehicle segment, according to its newly released Q1 earnings report covering the first three months of the year.
The company delivered 586,149 vehicles globally in Q1, reflecting an overall increase in sales, particularly driven by strong performance in Europe and the United States. In contrast, the Chinese market showed a decline during the same period.
EV Boom Continues
BMW’s push toward electrification is clearly gaining traction. Sales of fully electric vehicles (BEVs) rose by 32.4% compared to the same quarter last year. In total, 82,700 BEVs were delivered across the BMW, MINI, and Rolls-Royce brands.
MINI played a key role in this surge, with 35.3% of all MINI sales in Q1 being fully electric models.
BMW attributes the rising share of electric vehicles to a “model offensive”, which has introduced several new EVs, including an updated electric MINI, the new BMW iX2, and the BMW i5 Touring.
The Right Models at the Right Time
Jochen Goller, Member of the Board of Management at BMW AG and responsible for customer markets, emphasized that BMW’s electric lineup is hitting the market at exactly the right time. He noted clear progress in regions with high EV adoption and stated that the strategy is paying off in both volume and brand image.
The BMW Group expects continued growth in EV sales throughout 2025, bolstered by additional model launches on the horizon.
China Disappoints – But New Models Aim to Sustain Momentum
While Europe and the U.S. are driving growth, BMW is facing headwinds in China. Although no specific sales figures were disclosed in the press release, analysts point to increased domestic competition and heightened price sensitivity as likely contributors.
BMW is now pinning hopes on upcoming launches — including the next-generation electric BMW 3 Series and several new luxury EVs — to keep the momentum going in the world’s largest auto market.
