BMW has unveiled the final major test for its upcoming entry-level race car before it reaches customers and teams. During the legendary 24-hour race at Nürburgring in June 2025, the new BMW M2 Racing will have to prove it’s ready to compete in the real world of motorsports—beyond just controlled test environments.

Leading the test are three BMW factory-supported drivers: Belgians Ugo de Wilde and Charles Weerts, alongside German racer Jens Klingmann. According to BMW, Klingmann has been a core part of the car’s development from the very beginning, underlining the seriousness of the project.

The BMW M2 Racing has been developed as a customer racing model, aimed at drivers and teams looking to take their first step into circuit racing—while still retaining BMW’s racing DNA. According to BMW, it is designed to function both as a training platform and as a competitive contender in endurance races and national championships.

The upcoming endurance trial at the 24h Nürburgring, scheduled for June 21–22, 2025, will be the car’s final major test before the official sales launch. The course spans both the Nordschleife and the Grand Prix track—around 25 km of winding circuit known for its unpredictable weather. It’s a relevant and extreme test environment before BMW delivers the car to customers around the world.

Although BMW hasn’t released all technical specifications for the M2 Racing yet, they’ve previously indicated that the model will be based on the existing M2 series—with extensive modifications to the suspension, aerodynamics, and safety features. The focus is on cost-effective motorsport with German precision.

With the M2 Racing, BMW aims to follow in the footsteps of previous customer racing successes like the M4 GT4 and M235i Racing. Once the car completes its debut in June, the official sales launch is expected to be announced shortly thereafter.
