Record Number of Drivers Set for Dramatic Legends Car Cup Opener at Padborg
Small Cars, Big Drama: Over 50 Drivers and a New Championship Format
When the 2024 Legends Car Cup kicks off at Padborg Park the weekend of April 27–28, it will do so with a record-breaking grid and three potential records up for grabs. With more than 50 registered drivers, the popular Danish racing series is making motorsport history in its 17th season — and it’s not just the number of participants that’s different this year.
Back in 2019, the participation record stood at 45 drivers and 44 starters in a single race. Both figures are expected to be surpassed by a wide margin. There’s even a chance to break another rare record: the most drivers finishing a race, currently set at 40. With a mix of experience, skill, and a bit of luck, that record could fall as well.
Unified Title Fight Promises Intense Racing
According to the event organizers’ press release, it’s much more than just numbers that make this opening weekend special. After nine years of split-class championships, the 2024 season will return to a single overall title fight. Every overtake will now matter, regardless of the rival’s class, setting the stage for tighter, more unpredictable racing — from rookie newcomers to seasoned veterans.
The battle at the front is expected to be a showdown between the Silkeborg duo of Joachim Lee Holmstoel and Kevin Verner Jensen. Meanwhile, Masters-class veterans like Lars Bohnensach Ebbensen, Dennis Ladefoged, and Dan Sørensen will be aiming to upset the favorites and fight for the top spots.
