Tesla Lowers Prices: New Cybertruck Version Impresses with Long Range
The cheapest Cybertruck to date has landed – and it goes a long way on a single charge.
Tesla is now expanding the Cybertruck family with a new Long Range version, which positions itself as the most affordable option for the brand’s electric pickup. The price starts at $71,985 – about $10,000 lower than the all-wheel-drive variant. However, the lower price does come with certain compromises.
Despite the model having only a single motor, located at the rear, the range is still impressive: Up to 563 kilometers on a charge. With the optional bed cover, the range is further increased to 583 kilometers. And it does not hold back on performance – 0 to 96 km/h is achieved in 6.2 seconds, and the top speed is 180 km/h.
Tesla has, however, adjusted several elements to make the model cheaper. The advanced air suspension has been swapped for coil springs, and the ground clearance is set at 24.3 cm. The cabin is also simpler: There are fabric seats, which are heated but not ventilated, and the sound system consists of seven speakers. The rear screen, seen in the more expensive models, has been removed.
The Cybertruck Long Range also does not come with the electric bed cover or the many 120V outlets that have otherwise been part of the pickup’s signature. However, an adapter for the charging port can partially compensate for this.
In terms of capacity, it is still a robust work vehicle. It can tow up to 3,402 kg and carry 909 kg – not quite on par with the most powerful Cybertruck models, but still more than enough for trailers, equipment, and smaller boats.
The standard wheels are 18 inches and equipped with all-season tires. If one desires larger wheels and better grip in terrain, Tesla offers 20-inch off-road tires – however, at the expense of about 30 km of range.
Compared to competitors, the price is still on the high end. The Ford F-150 Lightning starts at $49,975, while the Chevrolet Silverado EV starts at $57,095. However, the new Cybertruck Long Range is approaching the Rivian R1T, which costs from $71,700.
Tesla has opened for orders, and the first deliveries are expected as early as June or July. Among the optional extras are fully self-driving functionality for $8,000, soft bed cover, mats, and additional storage space.
It is worth noting, however, that the Cybertruck is still not available everywhere – and it has not yet been launched in Europe.
